​The Community Masterpiece

The artwork you are viewing is the result of an annual
collaborative art project sponsored and carried out by
The Dime Art & Maker Studios.

First, we select an iconic artwork to replicate.  We then divide
and cut the selected work into squares or "tiles",  each bearing a small section of the painting. The tiles are then distributed within the local community along with a blank , wooden panel, instructions, and a
6 week deadline to recreate their assigned section of the painting in
the medium of choice, onto the panel.With all of the individual squares completed and returned, we assemble the panels like a giant mosaic, revealing the finished painting in it's entirety.

The "medium" or" material" used to decorate the panel is
entirely at the discretion of the participant, and we have seen (almost) everything! Cake Icing, Glass, Yarn, Found Objects, Rice, Collage,
Fabric, Alpaca Fur, Quilling, Stone, Mosaic and so many more.

With the help and creativity of over 400 artists we have finished 7 masterpiece projects to date, one per year since 2018.

The Community Masterpiece is unveiled every year in March,
coupled with a juried exhibition of artwork of a common theme.

We are grateful to The Union House for the opportunity to
showcase this community effort in an environment where so
muchof the community meet!
